King Charles and Queen Camilla were in Ottawa, Canada this week in a historic visit to our country. It was quite an event.

I had the privilege of joining the Royal Commonwealth Society, Toronto Branch, on May 27, 2025, to watch King Charles’ historic speech from the throne and opening of Canada’s 45th parliament.
The watch party was held at the Royal Canadian Military Institute in Toronto. There were a number of members of the society plus the public who attended.
I enjoyed speaking with the Toronto Chair of the Royal Commonwealth Society Toronto of Canada, Hans Bathija, who provided insightful commentary and history, which added tremendously to the experience.
Overall, it was fascinating to watch in real time the unfolding of our parliamentary traditions.
